Transition Year students from St.Vincent’s took full advantage of the good weather recently on the annual trip to beautiful Achill in County Mayo. Following an early start and a five hour journey the adventurous group met their respective ‘bean an tí’ and settled themselves in for four action packed days in Colaiste Acla. Amongst the activities were kayaking, canoeing, bog snorkeling and surfing, which many girls sighted as their personal highlight. Co-ordinator Ultan Henry explained, ‘The group had the opportunity to undertake a 25km hike while they were in Achill. This forms an important part of the Gaisce Bronze medal, or President’s Award. Many of these students will continue on their Gaisce journey this year, getting involved in personal challenges and volunteer work. Their enthusiasm and determination to complete the hike gives them a very positive start towards attaining the Award.’
