St Vincent’s Junior Certificate History students had a hugely enjoyable trip recently when they visited Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin and the monastic settlement in Monasterboice as part of their coursework.
The students took part in a guided tour in Glasnevin, which includes the O’Connell tower and vault which holds the remains of Daniel O’Connell along with visiting the graves of famous Irish leaders from the 1916 rising. An undoubted highlight was the burial place of Michael Collins, one of the most visited sights in the graveyard.
The group of third years also visited Monasterboice which features the impressive Muirdeach’s High Cross, one of the finest examples of a Celtic cross dating from the 10th century.
